With the world becoming increasingly unpredictable and risky, regulators in Asia are realizing the importance to put business continuity high on the corporate agenda and with Business Continuity Management (BCM) becoming an imperative, Asia needs to quickly come to terms with incorporating a business continuity strategy into its culture and way of working.

This was one of the key messages that was passed at the launch of the Business Continuity Management Conference (BCMC) in Singapore today. The annually held event, which will take place from 30th October to 1st November 2007, brings together experts in the field of BCM through its conference, exhibition and interactive workshops.

In its 7th run, the conference will see participation from various verticals such as Information Technology, banking and Finance, Education, Government, Manufacturing, healthcare and Telecommunications.

Held by Business Continuity Planning Asia (BCP Asia) and endorsed by Business Continuity Institute (BCI), this year’s conference will feature speakers from leading brands including Merrill Lynch Global Services, Media Development Authority of Singapore and International SOS—who will share their experiences and best practices in implementing BCM in their organisations.

This year will also play host to the first-ever Asia Business Continuity Awards (ABCA) to be held in the region and in Singapore.

The awards serve as a platform to engage and develop the industry, providing exposure to new ideas, best practices and benchmark for organisations to compete against.

Nominations were received from around Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Korea, Philippines and Australia. Winners were chosen based on how they excelled and significantly contributed to the growth of business continuity in Asia.

“With business continuity becoming a key business priority, the time is ripe to acknowledge and recognise individuals and companies across Asia Pacific that have established BCM strategies,” said Henry Ee, Director, BCP Asia.

“The Asia Business Continuity Awards are an excellent way to promote business continuity best practices and we are particularly honored to have such exemplary speaker at the 7th Annual Business Continuity Management Conference to increase awareness of business continuity management in Asia.”

The categories introduced for the inaugural year include Business Continuity Manager of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Business Continuity Provider of the Year (Recovery Site), Business Continuity Management Software of the Year and Group Excellence in Business Continuity Management. However, Mr. Ee did mention that more categories might be introduced in the following years.

Singapore Computer Systems (SCS), one of the leading information and communications technology service provider in Asia bagged the Business Continuity Provider of the Year accolade for its Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery site.
