Oracle said last week that it has seen strong adoption of its solutions among media and entertainment companies in Asia Pacific.

Companies including China’s language search engine company Baidu and Xinhua News Agency; India’s Amar Ujala and Tata Sky; and Indonesia’s Global TV are apparently part of a growing list of customers that use Oracle to manage information and content assets, protect intellectual property rights, ensure information quality, manage projects, revenues and financials, as well as reduce infrastructure costs.

Globally, Oracle’s media and entertainment solutions are also used by leaders in media and entertainment - HarperCollins Publishers, Home Box Office (HBO), Lucasfilm and Warner Music Group.

Oracle believes its success can be attributed to its ability to bring together a unique portfolio of proven software that enables media and entertainment companies to develop highly profitable business models in a fast-changing environment.

The solutions help provide a cost-effective, future-proof IT infrastructure with market leading applications that underpin and facilitate rapidly evolving media and entertainment business strategies. Oracle’s portfolio for media and entertainment integrates industry applications (from Oracle’s acquisition of Siebel, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, Portal and Demantra) with the capabilities of Oracle Applications, Oracle Service-Oriented Architecture Suite and Oracle Service Delivery Platform (both components of Oracle Fusion Middleware) as well as Oracle Database.

With support for virtually all distribution channels and types of content, the Oracle media and entertainment solutions portfolio offers a set of IT products for the media industry value chain. Oracle media and entertainment solutions help companies gain a time-to-market advantage by enabling them to deliver targeted content and promotions, as well as services to meet specific consumer demands.

Oracle provides an applications and technology infrastructure to support new media and entertainment services incorporating high volume content management, integrated business rights tracking, marketing resource management, advertising management, campaign management, billing and royalty management and business intelligence.

“As boundaries blur and non-traditional players enter the media and entertainment market, a SOA-based IT architecture will ensure flexible, robust and scalable business-IT solutions,” said Christopher Khouri, Industry Analyst, Media and Broadcast Technology, Datamonitor.

Khor Cheng Kian, Industry Director, Communications, Media and Utilities, Oracle Asia Pacific said, “Each media and entertainment company is unique, yet all are looking to their software partners to provide the technological infrastructure and applications to meet their evolving business requirements. Oracle is uniquely positioned to provide infrastructure software and applications that accelerate business processes for media and entertainment companies from content development through delivery and settlement, based on our market-leading products and relationships with key partners.”
