Brocade said today that the professional adventurer whom it is sponsoring to complete the World’s Longest Journey on Skates expedition has surpassed the existing Guinness World Record of 4,175km in Hua Hin, Thailand on 24 December 2007.
Singaporean adventurer Swee Chiow embarked on this mission in October of this year to tour throughout Asia on his skates with a primary aim of raising awareness on the importance of reducing energy consumption amongst individuals and companies.
His stop in Thailand is of historic importance as this marks the point where he had officially broken the world record for inline skates. Khoo will continue on his journey to Singapore and cover a total distance of 6,000 km setting a new world record for inline skates. He intends to do it within 100 days. Khoo, who was one of the first Singapore representatives to scale Mount Everest in 1998, is also the holder of the existing Guinness World Record for the Longest Scuba Dive in a Controlled Environment.
Brocade told journalists at the launch of this landmark event on October 4 2007 that its decision to support this event was due to the fact that the intention behind the cause aligns well with the network storage providers green initiatives.
As a champion for energy conservation, Brocade’s hails its entire line of products to be among the most power-efficient data center solutions available in the market today.
“Today, data centers and computer rooms across the globe consume approximately two percent of the world’s energy, and will continue to grow on a daily basis,” commented Gerald Penaflor, Regional Director, South Asia Pacific/Korea.
“Through this sponsorship, Brocade hopes to contribute to protecting our environment by creating awareness for the importance of energy conservation and educating the public about it in the process.”
As a member of the Green Grid, a non-profit consortium dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems, Brocade recognises the significance and importance of energy efficiency. This has been crucial especially with the increasing demand for green datacenters around the world. |
