Convergin, a provider of solutions for service mediation and fixed-mobile convergence, has entered a partnership with BEA Systems, a provider of enterprise and communications infrastructure software. The two companies have integrated the Convergin Accolade Wireless Convergence Server (WCS), a service interaction platform for IMS and pre-IMS 2G/3G/Fixed networks, with BEA WebLogic SIP Server, the converged Java EE-SIP-IMS application server, for service providers to deliver services across both IP and traditional legacy networks.

The joint solution is designed to allow a viable evolution from legacy service platforms (SCPs), to a service layer with an IMS-based, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform, while delivering the equivalent network functionality, and control for GSM/CDMA/and Wireline networks.

"The time has come to bring SOA to Telecom service delivery, and to realise the vision of services that leverage existing assets in legacy networks and new assets in IMS networks", said Benjamin Renaud, senior director, BEA WebLogic Communications Platform, BEA Systems. "The combination of BEA WebLogic SIP Server with Convergin’s Accolade WCS is designed to allow both companies to help network operators to make the IMS Services Layer based on Telecom SOA principles, a reality".

The BEA WebLogic Communication Platform product family, which consists of BEA WebLogic SIP Server and BEA WebLogic Network Gatekeeper, is designed to deliver a service delivery platform for converged voice and data services.

Ayal Itzkovitz, CEO of Convergin said, "The combination of BEA WebLogic SIP Server and our Accolade WCS can help BEA to target new markets and can help enable service providers to take a step towards realising their IMS and fixed-mobile convergence goals. It is evident that the market is moving towards accepting more IT standards for the network service layer and we are proud to present a powerful solution that delivers on this promise."

Convergin Accolade WCS is the market leading solution for service mediation and network convergence, deployed in the core of wireline and wireless networks. As a solution provider with multiple commercial deployments, serving millions of subscribers, Convergin plays a key role in the deployment of IMS and fixed mobile convergence.

Further, despite widespread views to the contrary, enterprise businesses will likely become a hot market for IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) services, reports In-Stat. BEA, a maker of enterprise and communications infrastructure software, and Huawei, Chinese Telecom equipment company have decided to partner inorder to to facilitate the adoption of IMS communication services like voiceSMS, voice-mail, and videomail. The partnership is aimed at a two-year stint where the companies plan to integrate the Intervoice Media Exchange Enhanced Services Platform together withBEA Systems—BEA WebLogic SIP Server. The integration will, according to a news release, "offer an IMS network and service layer solution for communications service providers that reduces the cost of development, operation and time to market for next generation services."

Huawei says its IMS solution is based on 3GPP, 3GPP2 and TISPAN standard. The solution helps operators make the most of Fixed-Mobile Convergence.

Ding Yun, president of Core Networks, Huawei commented, "Huawei is facilitating cooperation to build an open IMS eco-system, for carrier operators around the world that can deliver various innovative services to their subscribers as quickly as possible".

"BEA, Intervoice and Huawei recognise IMS as a landscape-altering architecture. In direct discussions with our carrier customers, it became clear that what they need is an open application environment that could exploit the capabilities of next generation handsets", Jim Milton, Chief Operating Officer, Intervoice said.
