Yahoo-based GPS in the Works

A Global Positioning System (GPS) manufaturer on the block has decided to include Yahoo's local-search data in its navigation device for cars. This particular GPS navigator called the Dash Navigation will integrate Yahoo Local Search into its device.

According to the company, the device will allow users to Internet-connected devices to search for local events and such through the Yahoo Local Search.

According to the company, with the Dash Express, Yahoo! Local search results are arranged into 'address cards', which can be selected, routing the driver to the exact location.

Google also teamed up with Volkswagen to potray a Earth 3D map overlay for 'dead-reckoning and laser-radar imaging' and 'car-to-infrastructure communication'.

Ford, Microsoft Partner on In-Car OS

Ford is all set to join hands with Microsoft to adminster computer connectivity options in their slew of cars, The Wall Street Journal(WSJ) reported. Ford will soon unveil a hands-free Bluetooth wireless system and in-vehicle operating system developed by Microsoft, the WSJ said.

The new system is called Sync. It is said to feature hands-free cell phone communication and other wireless information transfers inside the car, including the ability to receive e-mail and download music, according to the WSJ report.

The Sync system willmake an entry in two models of Ford—Focus and Five Hundred sedans. Later the Lincoln and Mercury divisions are expected to have the option. In many cases, the technology will be integrated into a navigation system, the report said.

Sync is built on Microsoft's Windows CE operating system, which powers mobile handhelds and smartphones, Windows Automotive attempts to lighten up traffic woes with a high-throughput injection of infotainment and on-board navigation, the report said.
