Korea Institute of Patent Information Deploys Oracle SOA Suite

Software goliath Oracle said yesterday that the Korea Institute of Patent Information (KIPI), a specialized patent information service agency founded by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), has integrated a solution based on the Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Content Database Suite on Oracle’s enterprise grid computing platform.

“Prior to the implementation of the integrated solution, users had to wait between three to 10 days for patent information. It now only takes users one hour to access this information. Additionally, data transfer time between our agencies has shortened by 50%,” said Chang-Soo Kang, Team Manager of IT Planning & Development, Korea Institute of Patent Information.

“It is now easier for KIPI to integrate and manage our tremendous volume of complicated data and Oracle Real Application Clusters ensures our services are available around the clock.”

KIPI provides and manages data related to intellectual property rights (IPR) in South Korea. It is responsible for disseminating information on local and international IPR with the aim of enhancing South Korea’s standing in the international research community. KIPI also provides analysis services to companies, research institutes and investors.

KIPI relied on the open and standards-based Oracle SOA Suite to shorten the development process for KIPRISPlus (Korea Industrial Property Rights Information Service Plus), its Web services-based, integrated information system for uploading, integrating, sharing and managing data. KIPI has adopted Oracle’s Enterprise Grid Computing Architecture using Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) as the foundation for KIPRISPlus to deliver 24/7 availability and on-demand scalability with no application changes needed, while lowering administration cost and increasing administration flexibility.

KIPI also implemented a content management solution based on Oracle Content Database Suite to ensure it could better manage large volumes of unstructured content such as documents, spreadsheets, and images in a centralized repository. Previously, it stored these files on a file server system, which made access difficult. Oracle Content Database Suite helped KIPI establish consistent information policies and processes, ensuring data is easier to manage, find, and share.

“We remain committed to helping organizations realize the benefits of Oracle’s technology architecture and are honored to be KIPI’s partner in deploying their SOA and content management solutions,” said Dongsoo Shin, Vice President of Technology Business Unit, Oracle Korea.
