Websense has released a new software that provides real-time security protection from the growing number of threats found on the Internet as a result of Web 2.0 technologies.
According to the Web security vendor, the new WebsenseŽ Web Security Gateway solves growing challenges brought on by the explosion of Web 2.0 technologies including user-generated content, mashups, interactive networking sites and Web applications.
Providing inline inspection of Web traffic, SSL traffic, Web 2.0 applications, and some 100 network protocols, Websense Web Security Gateway classifies new and dynamic content in real-time, determining immediately whether the Web site and its content are safe.
The software categorizes actual content on Web sites -- not just the sites themselves -- providing a granular approach that allows users to access Web sites but block portions of sites deemed inappropriate or a security risk. This was achieved by implementing the Websense ThreatSeeker(TM) Network identification and classification technologies at the customers' gateway, protecting them from never before seen threats and Web content.
More and more, organizations and their employees are adopting Web 2.0 technologies for legitimate business reasons. But introducing these new technologies without dynamic Web security protection can lead to compromise and data loss says Websense.
For example, iGoogle Web portals, which are a personalized mashup of different applications and news feeds, may contain valuable business tools, but on the same page a compromised application could expose businesses to risk.
"We believe this solution is the answer to the growing problem of Web 2.0 threats and the massive amount of Web content created every day," said John McCormack, senior vice president of technology, Websense.
"Only the Websense Web Security Gateway is able to provide real-time protection from malicious content, allowing our customers to use Web 2.0 tools to drive business growth without having to worry about security or productivity drains." |
