Dell Intros Environment Friendly PC

Dell has launched a range of desktop PCs that it claims are among the company's most environmentally friendly products.

The new mini-PC, called Dell Studio Hybrid is about 80 percent smaller than a typical desktop minitower, uses up to 70 percent less energy and is Energy Star 4.0 compliant, according to Dell.

It has an Intel Core 2 duo processor and comes with Windows Vista installed. As far as memory is concerned, the desktop has 2 GB of RAM, and has 250 GB of storage space, more than enough for a family PC. One of the cool things about it is that it comes with a Blu-Ray DVD player. Other options include Wi-Fi networking, a wireless keyboard and mouse, and a TV tuner.

"Our goal was to design a desktop that fits in the office or in the living room, or anywhere space is at a premium," said Michael Scheschuk, desktop product marketing, Dell, in a statement. "We've created a desktop PC category that combines style, performance and a high degree of energy efficiency."

The mini-PC will compete with Apple's Mac mini as well as with the devices in the HP Slimline series. As far as price is concerned, the Dell Studio Hybrid is less expensive than its Apple counterpart, putting it into a better position to compete for market share. The Studio PC starts at USD 499.

Dell also launched two new Inspiron PCs. One is the Inspiron 13, a 13-inch laptop. The other is the Inspiron 518 desktop, which is geared toward family multimedia functions.
